Kakariki seen in the South

For the first time in well over a decade a family of 4 kakariki have been seen in the Windy Hill Sanctuary. This colourful chattering bird is at critically threatened levels on the island but may well be breeding successfully with reduced levels of rats in the Sanctuary. The Windy Hill Rosalie Bay Catchment Trust has applied to breed and release this species to supplement the low numbers and boost their gene pool.
